Ginger and her brother Wilson were adopted together when they were 8 weeks old. A few months later, we noticed that Ginger was struggling to keep up with Wilson. She started having difficulty going up the stairs and began hopping up them like a bunny.
After consulting with a veterinary specialist, we were devastated to learn that Ginger had severe hip dysplasia. She underwent a special surgery called a Triple Pelvic Osteotomy (TPO) on her right hip. Luckily, the surgery was successful, and we brought her home, unaware of the challenges that lay ahead. Ginger's recovery from her hip surgery was extremely difficult.
We were instructed to use a towel to support her hip whenever she needed to walk, including when going outside to potty. Once the sedation wore off, we could see that Ginger was already feeling much better and eager to move around. Her energy levels increased dramatically each day, and she was always excited to play with Wilson. However, navigating stairs was still a struggle for her, often leaving us worried about her safety and ours. Despite the challenges, Ginger eventually made a full recovery and was able to enjoy activities like playing with Wilson, hiking, and swimming once again. A couple of years later, Ginger started limping occasionally on her "good" leg after playing vigorously, but she would usually recover after a few days. As time went on, the limping became more frequent, especially after long periods of inactivity, leading us to seek further medical intervention.
To our surprise, Ginger was diagnosed with a luxating patella on her back left knee, requiring another surgery. This time, a sling was provided for her post-op recovery, which was more effective than using a towel. However, due to her increased size and strength compared to her first surgery, it was still a challenge to manage her movements during recovery. We realized the need for more control and support, leading to the creation of the GingerLead.
GingerLead is a family-owned business that has been manufacturing mobility aids for pets since 2008. Inspired by Ginger's own struggles, we wanted to help other pet owners navigate through similar challenges. Our patented dog slings are designed for comfort and control, with an integrated leash for added security.

MEASURING INSTRUCTIONS How to Measure The X-Small (or Mini) GingerLead is typically for smaller breed dogs, cats, kittens, under 25 lbs, and DACHSHUNDS. The support pad is 1.5" wide x 6" long. Straps adjust from 28" - 69" long. CHEST HARNESS NOT INCLUDED.

Pad Width Measure from the front of the hind legs to the base of the ribcage to determine the support pad width.

Girth The sling buckles around your dog and is fully adjustable for the girth of any pet.

GingerLead is a small, family-owned business proudly manufacturing mobility aids for pets in Colorado, U.S.A. since 2008. Our premium, patented dog slings were created for a Golden Retriever named Ginger. Born with hip dysplasia, Ginger faced various challenges throughout her life. Inspired by our experiences with Ginger, we developed the GingerLead to assist other pet owners during challenging times.
